FiiO X3 Review
Jul 6, 2014 at 4:47 PM Post #226 of 238
Yeh i did as much digging around as possible after posting, I found out that there was no playlist support but it is on the tentative to do list for Fiio. Do you think it will happen?

Right now B&H have the X3 going for $149, in literally 7hrs the player will jump back to the $199 price tag. As it is it's a pretty big deal breaker for me, but if it were to happen in the future....

I am positive it will happen in the future, it has been confirmed by the source (james) that they aim to support playlists the same way it works on the newest X5 FW.

So the X5 does Playlists (m3u)?

Not sure if it supports m3u. Just heard playlists are possible to make.

Yeh I don't think it does (support m3u). It (X5) can add multiple tracks at a time to Favorites (as opposed to X3's single track at a time via Now Playing screen), but I'm not even convinced you can add entire albums or artists to the Favorites feature exists. Shame.

Its been a while not that the X3 was released... a few firmware updates was also released... Now that a 128GB micro SD card is available, I still dont know if the X3 supports the 128GB card. Do someone here know?

I will borrow this thread to post some of my first impressions.
First, the SQ - connected to my hi-fi, is amazing, much exceeding all of my expectations.

There are some quirks to the operation though (running firmware 3.24b).
The playlist doesn't always update automatically - as it should, since I have this option selected.
There are problems with browsing multiple disc albums: although the files are ID3 tagged correctly Fiio sorts them by track number first and then by dics no., eg.: in the 6 disc Bob Dylan latest Basement Tapes Fiio first sorts all of the tracks no.1 - from 6 different disc.

So I use folder browsing most of the times. But X3 doesn't remember, where and what I was doing last time.

X3 also SOMETIMES forgets, what it was playing last time, before it turned itself off. And SOMETIMES it does remember - weird.

And once I had non-tagged album on my card. Since then it displays "unknown artist" "unknown album" in playlist - although that album is no longer  on the card. And if I try to select that album X3 freezes.

Had my Sony A45 stolen, picked up a brand new x3iii at a bargain price.
Really a big step up on sound quality to my surprise, more control over bass, detail about the same but Sony sounded thinner. Only minus is Bluetooth, doesn't like hires.
