FiiO R7 All-In-One Desktop Android HiFi Music Player Discussion & Impressions Thread

I am using latest version of Roon Arc. Once Roon Arc plays music to an external dac connected by usb c, I can no longer play music to the external dac over usb c with any other streaming service. It is like the usb c port gets locked to the Roon Arc app.
Dear friend,

The engineer failed to reproduce the issue as well. And he provided this suggestion for you to try:
Turn off the 'enable usb device' when not using Roon Arc app. Then reconnect the USB DAC when using with other app to see whether it helps?

Best regards

Not sure I understand what you're saying here.
If you want to add an external DAC + an external headphone amp + an extrenal power supply, then what's the point of the R7 ?
Is it not "smarter" to get a simple streamer (maybe a Raspberry Pi4 with moOde ?) that will do the same for the same price with probably better results ?

Speaking personally I bought the R7 with no intent to ever/rarely even use the built in dac/amp because while my WiiM worked fine as a streamer for so long it was a boring little black box tucked in a corner. I bought the R7 so I could have a nice visual display for both album art and be able to run 3rd party android apps so I could run some sweet fractal music visualizer apps to enhance the fun factor of my rig. Also being android-based it has the flexibility to run stuff like YouTube so I can get that rare music you won’t find on Spotify. Likewise having SD cart support too let’s me throw all my downloaded music on there. Hell I can even download video game music tracking software and play the libraries of old Commodore 64 or Sega games. I could load a midi app and a soundfont and play canyon.mid if I was really feeling retro. it’s really a Swiss cheese device and I’m surprised more people “don’t get” why anyone would want or need this compared to other streamer boxes.

I’m sure i could've saved a few bucks with a Pi & added some generic alibaba monitor but I’m too old & busy to tinker around and don’t want a Frankenstein-looking device cobbled together, the R7 looks slick next to a stack of black & chrome Mcintosh equipment with a way larger software base to work from.

Same here. I use an external dac. I use Apple Music, Roon Arc, Qobuz, and Sirius. The R7 is simpler for me than another streamer like a Pi that I would mess up, and that isn’t as “pretty” or simple to control. My only issue is with the Ru’s usb driver. It doesn’t release the streaming app when it takes control of the dac. A re lot clears the issue. Hopefully, this will get fixed eventually. FiiO has been responsive, but I haven’t been able to explain my issue well enough or they cant fix it yet..

I tried to disable the usb driver, but that does not release the usb c connected external dac, so I am unable to play music using any other app except the one that last used the driver (i.e., Roon Arc and Qobuz) until I reboot the R7.

Good day. I would like to buy an R7 and I have a question for you. I would like to save more space on my desk, so I would like to know if you recommend buying a Fiio PL50 for power supply, or will it be enough to buy only an Ifi ipower X? Thank you very much for your advice.

Dear friend,

Thanks for considering our product.
Both the PL50 and IFI ipower X(12V version) could work with the R7. As for which one is better, you may try by yourself or read some reviews about them for help.

Best regards

Hi FiiO

Does this new firmware update include also Tidal Connect ? I have the R7 and this is the only thing that is bothering me so bad. All the other companies have it. Do you plan to implement it at least ?
