FiiO R7 All-In-One Desktop Android HiFi Music Player Discussion & Impressions Thread

The FiiO R7 is an absolutely beautiful bit of kit. It has ultimate functionality being ‘Roon Ready’, and it sounds absolutely superb
:grinning:

But if you have an R7 don’t, for the love of god, listen to a FiiO M17. I have one (unfortunately!) and it makes the R7 sound like a circa-2000 MP3 player. screw FiiO, the clever bastards!

@FiiO

Please answer once to the questions from #600 (and #530 to 1. and 3.) or give me please an address where I can report these Bug's/questions still, thanks.

Here is another bug, if you set the display size in the settings to "Max" or "Large" then it comes to this "misrepresentation".

@All
The internal power supply emits a quiet "coil beep" at 230V AC 50Hz, which is perceptible if you have the R7 right next to you (if you can still hear this frequency).

In my case, I feel it but not disturbing because I first far enough away from the R7 sit and this is connected to my "Hi-Fi system" as an external player. But I can understand that it is quite one or the other here negatively disturbs if he sits directly next to it or reacts sensitively to this frequency range, because he can still hear this.

For the price, the R7 is a, I think, pretty good overall package with room for "improvement". So that a possible R9 can stand out far enough if, for example, things like brightness sensor, illuminated touch keys, XMOS, Android 13, etc. are installed there.

Best regards

Hi,

If I get the meassages right, now that the R7 has been released, some things taht aren't "right" begin to show up.

I would like to try to sum up the pros and cons :

- PROS
- All-in-one concept
- Fair price
- Decent sound

- CONS
- Despite Fiio's promise : still no support to use the R7 as UPnP/DLNA media renderer
- Some units seem to produce a PSU noise
- Delay when used as USB DAC

Please contribute to complete this... Would help me decide if I go for it or if I try to find something else.

I know the R7 has it's own DAC but can you hook it up to an external DAC? I have a Chord Mojo 2 DAC.

If I bought the R7 I would be using it exclusively in headphone mode for late night listening - I have a main hifi rig with speakers/amp for listening to music during the day. Currently for night time listening I use an iPAD connected to the Mojo 2 DAC with USB C cable and play back music using either Roon or Apple Music. What benefits(if any)would I get from the R7 over my current setup, and crucially how would the sound quality compare between the two set ups?

Any advice gratefully received, thanks.

Yes, R7 has USB / Optical / Coaxial output so you can connects it to an DAC.

Re: we have never promise this feature but we did say that we will add this feature in the future. depended on our record I believe we will finally do it but it also depended on our human resource and other project.

- Some units seem to produce a PSU noise

Most should be not quality issues but due to some other reasons.

- Delay when used as USB DAC

Sorry R7 has not a individual USB Interface Chip like XMOS208 OR xmos316 , It is done by the Soc so the delay hard to be improved .

Was just about to post this
John Darko is a great journalist. But, with respect, I don’t need his review to know that the R7 is an absolutely briilliant bit of kit!
But their M17 is better!

**snip**
2. I have a few issues with streaming the audio from my Apple TV to the R7 through built-in Airplay. (Using the R7 as 'external speakers' on the Apple TV).
- There are 'hicks and clicks' with the built-in Airplay function, but not if I install a separate app for Airplay.
Hi FiiO, I’m also having this issue of clicks when I airplay from my iPhone XS. The DAC is connected via LAN cable to my router.

Is there an update for this?

Dear friend,

Which output mode are you using when using Airplay? And did you try via other Wifi?

Best regards
