Ferrum WANDLA - Impressions Thread

Ferrum needed MQA certification before shipping units. They have received certification, and the Wandla will start shipping in the US next week—the 1st week in May.

Pointless given MQA is irrelevant. Not that they could foresee that carnage of course...

Not personally an MQA user, but do appreciate that those who are will have the option if they have their own catalogue of MQA recordings, and the rest of us have support for every format pretty much.
Exactly, it isn't disappearing from streaming services.

I really, really want to buy this DAC. But worried about D/S vs. R2R. Looking at this, a Yggy, a Gustard R26, maybe a Qutest, maybe a Holo May Spring... too many options. It's with an OOR stack and susvara. Have a Bifrost 2/64 now. Not sure the best upgrade path is killing me!

You need to listen to them.

Thanks for the info, I look forward to hearing it. Hope Axpona went well.
Axpona was great. Ferrum's Marcin Hamerla and Pawel Gorgon were present for the Premiere of the Wandla. In addition to the listening stations at the Ear Gear Expo, the Wandla could be auditioned thru a pair of Marten Quintet 2 speakers. The Wandla was by far the least expensive component in the system, and the sound was excellent. Here are two writeups on the system.

The Grimm MU1 Streamer feeding the Wandla would have given it a really nice signal to work with. Never heard it, but it seems to be universally praised in making any system it's connected to better.

We used an AES/EBU cable to the Wandla to enable the upscaling option in the Grimm. Plus we could play our .DSF files downsampled to 24/176.4K. Comparing the Wandla's HQ Player filters to the Grimm's upsampling was interesting. If we didn't have so many attendees in our room, I would have liked to set up some blind comparisons. It was a very well-attended show.

Upgrading the DAC will bring significant overall improvement, provided that you find the one that suits your tastes and match with your system.
