FATfreq Impressions Thread - Bass Cannons and More
Feb 26, 2024 at 7:22 PM Post #1,711 of 2,043
Today, I received the FF Scarlet Mini! I've decided to get a good setup and want to ask about recommendations for a DAP to pair with the red beauties. I often listen to bass-heavy EDM music like Techno, DnB, and some other genres. Price ~1000 EUR. I read some good comments about Sony NW-WM1AM2, but is it able to provide the needed power? Also, maybe pairing it with such bass-heavy IEMs is not the best idea?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and recommendations!
If we're talking about powering the Scarlet Minis, then most decent DAPs should be able to do the job. Heck, I can even power them with my Fiio KA13 dongle on my phone with no problems and they still managed to scale quite well. I'm not too well-versed when it comes to pairings though.

The WM1AM2 may most probably be able to as I'm using a ZX707, you just have to turn up the volume a bit above the 100.

I'm using sony 707 just fine. When I want more juice I can add a hipdac or fiio ka17.

If you don't already have one, get new. Venting by itself is worth it, big quality of life upgrade.

Yeah, venting makes a big difference for me - not as much sound but more comfort with pressure.

If it's something that doesn't vent, I normally have to get creative with choice of tip used.

Completely neglected to post my review from the Australian Head-Fi tour for the Scarlet Mini (available here)

Not much else to say other than this thing delivers on its promise of being a “bass cannon”. Not my choice as a daily driver but definitely a guilty pleasure specialist to have in the rotation!

Thanks for the time and reviewing it @grumpy213 - we appreciate it and are glad you had some fun with the review!

Thanks @sevenwithawp. enjoy! I use the RS6 and it provides more than enough, you can find one secondhand in your price range.

Anybody get any updates recently on their Scarlets shipping? I was told a few weeks ago that mine were finally ready for shipment but since Feb 26th none of them have answered any of my messages 😔. I've been waiting since October.
Having exactly the same problem. Was told my order had been dispatched 2 weeks ago & I should receive tracking info in a couple of days. So far no tracking info or order received.

I’ve emailed Ellie twice but not received a response to either email (last one sent on Monday). I’m not impressed especially given how much postage they charged. I’m also getting concerned my order might have gone missing in transit 🤞🏻 that’s not happened!

I was really positive about it at first but as it turned from being told it will probably be shipped December to then January or February, to it now being March and still having no clue what's going on its really disappointing. I don't doubt that FatFreq make good products but based on how this has went I don't think I'd ever consider getting anything else from them.

Yeah the customer experience really needs improvement. Automating order updates by email & increasing production would make a massive difference.

I understand they’re a small company so managing orders can take a while (3 months & counting is extreme) but just giving customers regular updates during the process should be achievable during that time.

Also charging £19 postage with no tracking info (so far) & a delivery time in excess of 3 weeks is not justifiable. Especially given a recent order from Ali Express was delivered for free and only took 10 days to arrive.

I completely agree and like you said, yes they're a small company, but the thing that disappoints me more is the lack of clarity. If they made it clear how long it could possibly take or were clear that the delivery time was still very TBD, but they keep telling me it will be shipping one month and pushing it 3 times now and still haven't told me if it's shipped.

Have you messaged them on their website's chat function? I noticed they seem to be very responsive there, as compared to email.
