I currently have the HE-400 and HD600. I have a DragonFly as a preamp and use the Emotiva mini-X a-100 as my amp. I'm looking for a cross between both these headphones. The solid bass reproduction from HE-400 with the smooth mid range of the HD600. I'm looking for a EUPHONIC mid range. I want to hear the seductive female singers emotion. I want to feel the music more than appreciate its technicalities.

Any suggestions?

The only headphone that I researched that might work is the LCD-2, but I do not know any retailers in San Francisco that have them.

Just listened to the HD650, HD800, LCD-2, LCD-3, and a 1400 Beyer pair that I forgot the model of. I like the LCD-2. It has the versatility the HE-400s have down low but the mids and smooth highs that I am looking for. The HE-400s sound lifeless now :frowning2:. I will make the upgrade soon.

What do you think, how euphonic the sound of the HD800 is compared to the others?

I have not tried out the ath w1000x. Sounds like it is a great can.

I find the HD800 very analytically. It sounded amazing for the first few minutes but I then got fatigued quickly. I'm a mids/bass head. I like treble but seem to EQ down slightly anyways.

With the LCD2 I feel you get to see the whole picture. The HD800s put me on a ride to show me all the cool sounds I would otherwise miss.

I recommend finding a hifi store and trying them out. I actually preferred the less refined treble on the LCD2 instead of the LCD3. LCD2 is smooth enough for me ... I want to keep some type of edginess as well.

How would you compare it to LCD2?
