emu1212 to external dac...optical or rca?

Okay, so my current home pc rig is emu1212m-->ciaudio vda-1-->amp/cans. I'm currently going with the optical out from the 1212, but wondering if anyone has noticed an appreciable difference one way or the other between optical or rca. Thanks in advance.
