It's been a long time I've had a look at what was available as DIY electrostatic amps. Is there anything decent one could build under 500$ (before casing) ? Preferably (but not required) with PCBs I could buy somewhere ?
 
I'm pondering whether or not help someone building one vs buying a stax amp and I'd like to have an idea of the options I could suggest.
 
 
Otherwise there's this schematic that has been tempting me for a while. But why reinvent the wheel and take the risk of blowing out a lot of parts if something decent is already proven and tested ?

Uh ? Sorry, but I started from a mix of idea of Tubecad, the RKV thread on this forum, readings on diyaudio and wasn't aware of your amp. I'll readily admit there are great similitudes, but it's actually quite different if you look closely: feedback and biasing are different, the upper mosfet is used in srpp fashion, to point out the most obvious.
 
I'm really sorry if you feel I've tried to cheat you or use your ideas without giving you proper reference, but it certainly wasn't the case. Just a case where a similar starting idea leads to similar results.
