I don't recall if I've shared this in this thread or not, but this album is absolutely amazing.

I've always found Aphex TWIN dual-natured (funnily enough).....amazing or manic headachy stuff.

Yeah, no album better sums up his schizo nature than Drukqs! I like the manic stuff as well though - gotta have the rough with the smooth

As a general rule, my feeling is that he always tended to put out his harder, more manic tracks as AFX + Caustic Window / Polygon Window. Under the main Aphex Twin moniker, Syro was possibly the most accessible album he's released to date. It's grown on me a lot since I first heard it though - the mastering on that one really is top level.

Yes. I just listened to Druqs last night. The shift between the unified, contemplative and the disjointed, Dionysian is fascinating.

In terms of Syro, yeah thats a very well mastered album. I also like its restless metamorphoses that altogether come across as plotted compositions with their own sort of narrative structure. XMAS_evet10 is a perfect example of this. I believe Syro navigates the murky space between pop accessibility and avant-garde experimentalism nicely (that is, precisely and cleanly). The second track on the album is actually not an "easy listen" for me yet repays diligent attention without going into the more demanding compositions of later Autechre (Confield, Exai, Untilted, Quaristice, Draft 7.30).

Oh no WraithApe, you shouldn't have mentioned V-snares (LOL
etysmile.gif
) because now some people are gonna be blown away with some of his work! I'm talking about Venetian Snares - some people think he's the same guy as Aphex Twin, but nope - this is Aaron Funk from east Canada. He came out with 3 EPs in 2011 - 2012 which I believe were astoundingly ingenius and years ahead of their time - yet very under-appreciated! Do check these out if you're into electronica (and classical) at all:
