Has anyone ever had the impression that their portable amp or DAC sounds better during the first half of its charge then during the second half?

I've experienced this phenomena several times, with an amp or DAC not sounding as full and dynamic as I'm used to....then after a battery replacement/recharge it sounds on its game again.  I've noticed this with the 9v powered MicroDAC and SR71, as well as the rechargeable SR71b.  In these instances the battery is far from dead, just not as fresh as it was.

Is there any explanation for this?  Is this real or some imagined effect?  Curious minds need to know.

I haven't noticed that with my amps.

well as long as there is some regulation present, there should be no difference at all in the power that gets to the amp circuit. batteries voltage does start off higher and become less as it discharges, but unless the amp is being powered without regulation the amp circuit will not see these differences.
