Imo, Eros S is the best price to ratio Effect Audio cable, in all their line up.

Terrific product, all criteria.

100% agreed. And though I've not tried every cable at that price point, I'd say that the Eros S could very well be the best of any offering in the $300 range period.

The only cable I haven't auditioned yet is their Centurion... Which is a cost no object product.

So ... 😎😁😉

You don't want to do that... it's soooo good, cleanest sounding cable I've heard yet.

Well,

Agreed,

And for the high end EA offering, well... I am not so impressed.

It very good, no question, but :

- Chiron : I don't buy. Very good but lack of "omph"...
- Code 51 : same and it was a little disappointment with my iems... Average tones for instance. Lack of magic.
- Leonidas 2 : well ... Pricey and not that good (treble). Same.
- Cleo 2 8w : very depending of the synergies... Could be too smooth.

And below (code 23, 24, 24c, etc, etc, etc... Too much products to mention) : specialized products. Copper oriented, or fusion oriented. Questionable ergonomics. Fusion : same.

Imo, their very best cable (but the Centurion... 😉) is my Ares S Founders Edition : just a miracle, everything.

Then, price to ratio and above : Eros S. Balanced, dynamic, natural ... All the best. 👍

Got to spend a bit of time with the Code 24 and Code 24C cables courtesy of the Australia Effect Audio Code 24 tour and @Damz87

As always, cable impressions can be unpredictable and relate to what they were trialled with. Cable changes fine tune both aesthetic and sonic presentations.

These are brief impressions only.

From the Effect Audio Website

"CODE 24 is a representation of our relentless pursuit, pushing a single material to its fullest potential. Befitting our flagship Silver-Plated Copper cable label, CODE 24 integrates the best from CODE 23, elevating multiple technologies and functionalities into a coherent piece of tech—featuring our newest 2024 Trio-Flex™ Pure Solid Core System, a total of 13 multi-size core bundles, a proprietary blend of multi-size strands, a whopping 16.5 AWG, and more. The result is an ergonomic and unfiltered listening experience with outstanding technical mastery.

Listen to our flagship-level Silver-Plated Copper cable with a signature "Super-Tweeter effect" and get ready to be transported into an intergalactic realm."

Ergonomics

I didn't actually mind them. I'm used to thick headphone cables and whilst I prefer a flexible, braided cable, the ergonomics are acceptable. It is a thick cable but for desktop listening there were no issues.

What I did mind was the thick headphone plug. Did the termination really have to be so chunky and extend right to the end of the 4.4mm plug? I couldn't really plug it straight into my SP3000 because it wouldn't fit between the cut-out of the leather case without a very hard shove. Function over form if I may suggest.

Sonic impressions with the Alter Ego

I much preferred the balanced characteristics of the Code 24 over its vibrant sibling, the Code 24C. Compared to the 24C, the Code 24 felt subtly warmer, laid back and better balanced. The soundstage seemed a little closed with the Alter Ego and I felt the staging adequate, but could do with more air and separation for a thick gauge SPC. Some of this may relate to the IEM/source pairing as the staging was much better with the MEST III below.

The 24C in contrast felt more closed and intimate and lacked the treble extension of the Code 24. Bass was tight but I thought PRAT could be improved. Both the stock cable and the Code 24 were better pairings. The Code 24 is technically superior.

Sonic Impressions with Mest III (and MEST stock cable) and Code 24

The MEST III cable is a shielded, warm and ergonomically torrid affair. I have to date ever experienced a cable that kinks so easily on winding/unwinding.

The Code 24 was immediately brighter, with the treble extension noticeable. There was improved air and separation and from a technical perspective, the Code 24 is rather competent. Vocals and mids were prominent. It was however missing that low end warmth, weight and enveloping rich BCD sound that I associate with the stock cable.

Overall, a fun introduction to EA cables. And the colours certainly pop. Most of my IEM's are paired to their stock cables which at the multi-kilobuck tier are chosen by the manufacturer to match desired IEM tuning characteristics.

These will be sent onto the next member of the Australian tour shortly. Thank you for the opportunity.

Ares S.jpg

I just wanted to update you on how it went with the warranty repair of the Ares S 8w which had the right ConX pin returned. The shipment cost 45 euros (and so far nothing to say) it took more than a month for the repair and as the return approached I was told that the costs were entirely my responsibility, another 20 euros (I knew that if the defect is ascertained under warranty at least the reshipment is done by the company but the opposite is written in the Effect Audio warranty policy). The icing on the cake is represented by the fact that the returned cable was declared as goods to be sold and not as a return under warranty so I had to pay another 35 euros in customs. All this for a poorly made cable (ConX), returned under warranty and for which Effect Audio did not pay a single cent during the entire procedure that I remember concerning a defective cable under warranty. Everyone draws their own conclusions. Total spent 100 euros.

@JordonEA is it true that centurion prices are going up from $5000 starting May 1 or is that just for Korean market?
Hello @Noobzilla

Thank you for reaching out with your question about our flagship Centurion's revised pricing.

We understand that price changes can be concerning, and I want to assure you that the decision to adjust the Centurion’s price to USD $5,499 was not made lightly. This increase is directly linked to the rising costs of high-quality materials like pure gold plating and pure silver, which are crucial to the craftsmanship and performance you expect from our products. Additionally, it reflects our commitment to sustainable business practices that support not only our operations but also our dedicated dealers and partners.

Our aim is to continue providing our fans and customers with exceptional products and service without compromise. Thank you for your understanding and your continued support.
