Ebay tube amp? Real?

Yep, that seems to be the newest fad on eBay, very low sales price and exorbitant shipping prices. It serves 2 purposes, to trick the buyer if they don't pay attention, and it circumvents the majority of the eBay transaction fees. It is, of course, against the eBay tos.

The postage costs for these amps are generally scale with real costs. These amps are very heavy and need a lot of packing because of the tubes being glass. China is also a long way away.

I bought a lower power model from a UK reseller. Pretty good amp for the money. That one you've linked to is also in the product leaflet I got with it.

If you get one, be sure to put decent tubes in it.

It's 26kg (50 pounds)! Better reinforce your desk first.

This might explain some part of the high shipping costs...

If you love music so much ,then an amplifier for you should be important like your car or even more than your wife (!)

hahahaha! they are saying their tube amp more important than the wife? are they serious? but ok, the high shipping cost does circumvent most of ebay's fees and saves the buyer money.

I've spoken to some people who have bought ebay tube amps from china. Their opinion is, the quality is shocking, but they can be salvaged, or at least some parts.

It doesn't save the buyer anything, transaction fees go to the seller. The higher the sales price the more the seller pays eBay.

That's right. Think of it like putting a reserve on an auction without paying ebay the fee for having a reserve.

People here at HeadFi generally are a little more sophisticated than the regular Ebay population so "quality" and "value" have a different meaning here. It is better to buy equipment only from HeadFiers and HeadFi vendors unless you really know your electronics. HeadFi vendors will give fair shipping pricing, excellent customer service, and if your equipment is purchased from a HeadFier or a vendor you can in most cases sell it for nearly what you paid for it. There is generally no secondary market for unknown stuff from Ebay.
