Stock Etymotics don't have realistic bass quantity. According to goldenears' tests (http://en.goldenears.net/index.php?mid=KB_Columns&document_srl=1884) the difference in bass quantity between a flat headphone and flat speaker is 6db +-1db so it's actual frequency response looks like this 

 
Doing the nrb mod will help fix is.

Are you aware of the skew that GoldenEars applies to its test?

I was reading rinchoi site and it linked me to this http://asadl.org/jasa/resource/1/jasman/v71/i3/p650_s1?isAuthorized=no which states the 6 db difference is actually 1.8 db +- .2 db so for once im wrong
