How is the sound compared to 2.20? I'm old school. Can't get away from it. Although it would be nice to be able to use it aa a DAC from time to time. I am still using a 2011 MacBook Pro. Can't live without the cd drive.

  Paul,

OS X DAC function:
  1. on macbook pro 15 mid 2010 + el capitan = doesn't work
  2. on mac mini late 2014 + el capitan = doesn't work
  3. on mac mini 2009  + el capitan = works!

On the two instances in red, do you see the DX90 listed in the Audio Midi setup utility? Also, make sure your Mac didn't default to a sampling rate the DX90 doesn't support. Good Luck!

Yes, I have "DX90" in Audio Midi list. 48 kHz/2 channels/32 bit. Set it default.
Checked it on Mac mini 2014 with different songs 16bit/44kHz via VOX. It works, but sound has some clicks every ~2 seconds... Like vinyl:)
And I hear this clicks only during playing song. They are absent in pauses.
Something strange...

Are you sure about 32bit?

Tried 2.4 L0. I did appreciate the USB battery indicator fix BUT felt the sound overall to be less to be my taste than 2.30L1. Soundstage and instrument separation may be a bit better but I found the tonal balance to shift toward toward upper mids and treble, creating a bit of grain in female vocals and snares / cymbals become a bit too bright. Conversely, I heard a bit less sub-bass and overall bass impact in 2.4L0. So bak to 2.3L1 for me. I know some found that FW to be too bright but I do not. What an interestingly subjective experience this hobby provides....no substitute for listening and determining what sounds best to each individual despite all the great and helpful views shared on this site. Happy listening!
