I dont agree, the firmware is changing the sound quality on a technical level as it is lowering sound distortions. This is making the sound smoother, increasing detail, naturalness, transparency, texture, timbre, separation, everything is improved, there is no way I would call it a tonality change, its a sound quality upgrade, no other way to put it, and enough of a difference to change its rankings among other DAPs.

As much as i love the sound i am not hearing more details or more clarity and that is with some of the best universals like sennheiser ie800 and shure se846.

Let's not mistake something here. The tonality has changed, more musical, smoother, added sparkle but on a technical level it is the same.If the ak120ii or ak240 had bigger soundstage, more clarity or details before the firmware update they will continue to do so after the lurkers update.

+1

Amazing job by both Ibasso and Lurker! For me the 2.1.5L2 also sounds smoother, more natural than the 2.1L. It's almost an analogue type of sound.
I also like the proportions of the soundstage better because the old one was too wide and lacked depth. The soundstage on the new firmware feels more natural.
Hope ibasso won't stop tuning and optimizing their firmware for the DX90 it's such a great value

I don't know what is wrong but something is. I get great sound, bass included. Maybe give it a couple of hours to see if anything improves. If not, try a different coax cable.

Just turned the EQ off on the DX90. Had it set to Custom (all sliders on 0). Seems to have opened up the sound A LOT.

Might still try a coax with a better fit than the original iBasso one. Have been looking at the Forza Audioworks one but weird lengths - 5cm or 30cm?

How do I download the Lurker firmware? I can't find a working link.

Did you try the link in the first post of the thread?

I have been on vacation for 2 weeks and haven't listened to the DX90. After return I first flashed the Lurker 2.1.5L1 and haven't noticed much difference. Today I flash to 2.1.5L2 and the improved layering is very obvious (max volume line out to Arrow 4G to EPH-100, slow roll off filter, gapless on)

But 2.1.5L2 still could not get rid of the "fade out/in" playback bug.

Great work done by Lurker and big thanks to him!

If you still experience this and it doesn't go away, I would email iBasso.

Everytime i hear praises for the 2.1.5 and lurkers i am compelled to try them again and again and again..
But every time the 2.1.0 comes on top

to my ears the difference is night and day 2.1.0 has a depth and fluidic presentation that all the other firmware just don't have. I always feel there is something missing in the other firmwares. 2.0.5 was good but it wasn't balanced, 2.1.0 is perfect

I think the type of music we hear makes us love or hate the firmwares. Well i listen to everything and i do not understand 70% of the music I hear From Africans, Spanish to Arabic and i believe the fw which can tackle all the genres is the one to go for..

Today i was working with this song for the comparison

Schoch Va Gado - Yulduz Usmanova (VA- rough guide to music of central asia)

The song could really bring out any flaws if there are any in the fw or if everything is not the way it is supposed to be ,,,  give it a go and let me know if we are on the same page.

Regards
BS

I'm sorry for my ignorance, but I don't know how to do that. How do I get to lurker's signature?

Download link: https://github.com/Lurker00/DX90-firmware/releases

Thanks Lurker00 for his work - and iBasso Team for the product :) - I like very much how this L2 version sounds and I needed so much the m3u list option I couldn't go back to 2.1.0

System synergy should always be top priority and this includes your preference in sound signature and the music you listen to.
