DT990 Pro Impressions Thread

Is this thread dead, or no one is interested in the dt990's anymore?

I am, interested enough to score a DT900/600, so loving it. I use it for listening to pop and rock music via my iFi Micro iDSD or Fostex HPA4 (depending on which rig I'm using at the time). It's great for gaming as well. A pic of my DT990/600, excuse the HE400i, I'd taken a pic of them together but have since returned the HE400i....

How do they compare to the hifimans you have?

I didn't spend much time with the HE400i because I had a brief window to return it. From the brief listen, I found it to be a tad dark, perhaps my iFi Micro iDSD 'tubey' sound didn't quite suit it. I have since bought a good number of cans (LCD2.2, HD800, HD700, Alpha Dog....and a V-Moda Crossfade M100

Guys, hows the dt990 with female vocals? Is the upper mids or lower treble recessed?

Too me not at all these are my go to cans for female vocals and acoustic music. All in all out of the three headphones that I currently have in my posession and the 7 or so I have rid myself of the DT990's are my favorite and most often used followed closely by Denon AH-D2000

What the hell, the dt990s are pretty much FULLY open, the only thing covering the driver at the back is the white fabric. Interesting design indeed. Is this the reason the dt990's are so bright?

No.
It usually sounds spacious and airy. brightness has to do with treble. if the treble is accentuated, it will sound bright.

Well the spaciousness is helped by the sparkly treble but I'd still say its mostly because of the near fully open design.
