Is this the one you mean?
I wrote, the same product. There is one problem with this page, it doesn't allow selecting different country than US, but here is a link.

Ah yes, I see very high shipping cost, May delivery and 0 seller feedback for a new AliX store opened March 2nd. I would not be in a hurry to order from there.
Every time I run into that on that site, I copy and paste the title of the product in and have gotten good results finding something similar with free shipping lol

Cheers!!

Cheers, good suggestion, though in this case these particular ADUM4166 USB isolators (especially with copper shielded chassis and DC in) still seem to be pretty rare on the ground. I even tried a google image search (which should pick up Taobao etc I expect) but drew a blank.

My suggestion for anyone interested in this particular one would be to contact the OG seller to ask them when they expect it to be back in stock..

I would message the seller and say free shipping or no go, lol

But I can be a bit rough around the edges...

Cheers!!

p.s. It's worked before, and use PP for sure!

I found a link on Taobao:
https://world.taobao.com/item/705834408463.html

And also a thread on a Chineese forum where a designer describes details:
https://www.headphoneclub.com/thread-757472-1-1.html

A product is audiophile oriented indeed, with a quality regulator and these features which require more comments:

1. Device do not draw power from the USB bus, therefore external PSU is required for operation. I initially thought that isolated power generator works in a forward direction (from a BUS power line downstream), but it is in reverse.

2. Author claimes that single chip solution creates malformed output, it is why reclocking chip is added with its own oscilator (for a total two). Translation is not clear, but it looks like it is USB 2.0 hub chip. It is a large square chip covered by a radiator on the photo. In fact, according to screenshots from Ali, it is installed on the Windows as USB 2.0 hub.

Not sure a hub is important feature as described, but it doesn't harm at all. In fact there are isolated hub devices with three output ports, one link was posted earlier. These are bus powered, so external power is optional. They can supply 300mA in total, more with external PSU. Taking a designer comment seriously I do consider isolated hub as a better alternative to a simple dongle.

If someone familiar with Chineese language is reading this, I please contact developer and invite him to the head-fi forum or at least get more infornation where to buy this product and when will be available. Thanks.

I have had my U2 Pro since january 2023, plugged in constantly since then, powered with a 5V/1A USB brick using the provided cable. Before pluging it in for the first time, I opened it, soldering was good, I just added some solder on a few THT components where I tought it was lacking and cleaned excess flux. The HDMI/I2S port was soldered slightly cerocked, but there were no bridged connections. For the price, very acceptable.

Previously going from my PCs USB straight to my DAC I had a problem on my tube amp hearing all the noise from my PC (GPU activity, mouse movements,...) in my headphones. With the U2 Pro in between my PC and my DAC, everything is compleatly quiet. So I can't comment on the sound change as my goal was to get rid of the noise. U2 Pro is connected with a COAX cable to my DAC, which for me is not a problem since I never had a need or own files above 24/192. All sampling rates from 16/44.1 to 24/192 and DSD work with no issues on my unit.

After 6 months I decided to upgrade the oscillators to Crystek CCHD-957 as I was curious if I could hear a difference. I bought the oscillators from Mouser and soldered them myself using some Mundorf Silver-Gold solder I had on hand. Picture of before and after is below. @rene555 and anyone else, for reference, my oscilators are for sure genuine, comming from Mouser. I again can't comment on the sound diference as right at this time I started using some higher end headphones (2k - 3k range).

All I know is, I have a clean source for my DAC, if there is a sound improvement great, if not, I stil solved my noise issue, which is mainly why I bought this unit for.

I picked up a U2 (not Pro) last week, and am trying to settle in with it connected to Mojo 2 via optical, but there are two things I'm struggling with.

1) Android phone. I've seen two posts in this thread where people seem to have it working (maybe Pro though?), but it's a dud for me with Samsung 22 Ultra. My phone connects to it OK but the audio is unlistenable, just filled with pops and cracks, especially if I move the cable.

Android tablet connects fine, and Windows laptop fine after I installed the driver, but not the phone. I think I read in this thread that the phone might not be able to provide enough power... any success stories from anybody running from their android phone? Or iPhone for that matter.

2) The cable. Has anybody managed to swap out the USB-A>C cable that came with their U2? I have tried 4 or 5 others, C>C and A-C, of varying quality and thickness, and my laptop/tablet will not even connect to the U2 with anything but the original.

This is more an aesthetic thing than anything else for now (I want to put in a shorter and neater cable than this big ugly tagliatelle strip with USB-A adapted to fit my devices), but it's also a longevity issue if I cannot find another cable that will connect to it.

Thanks for any help anyone can give. I read through the whole thread looking for answers to these questions, but couldn't find.

@BJPromo. Re:

#1. You read correct, it is excessive power problem, phones typically do not supply enough power needed for the operation. A solution is to use a cable with power injector or self-powered USB 2.0 hub before U2. I never tried a hub with a phone, as my U2Pro can be powered externally, attaching external power solves a problem. .

#2. Not sure, perhaps supplied cable has no wires required for superspeed operation which prevent host from negotiating higger speed than a high speed USB 2.0. When you buy aftermarket type C cable, it has all wires.

This is an issue with new motherboards with Thunderbolt or Power Delivery feature, especially on MACs, but also PCs. Plugging to the 2.0 port always works. If there is no such port, try a different one, type A ports on the back work better than on the front panel.

If doesn't work, use USB 2.0 hub (but not 3.x) you have purchased to solve #1.

Thanks Sajunky for replying and for the suggestions. My main reason for getting U2 over the Pro is that I wanted to be able to use on the go, connecting my android phone to my Mojo 2. My fault for not researching fully before buying.

I will probably return it for now, and maybe buy U2 Pro later if I really feel its lack in my desktop > DAC setup.

On the go, you don't need U2 (both are operating on battery) unless there are compatibility issues with Mojo.

In a case of using tablet or a phone, it is important to use the app that bypass internal resampling. Alternatively switch to a DAP. These devices are based on Android, but optimised for audio. I personally found Bluetooth with Sennheiser BT 4.40 BTNC sufficient quality during daily commuting, so no payware apps, no DAPs, no wires.

Thanks yes it's not to reduce noise on phone but to provide a stable connection via optical from Douk to Mojo 2. With USB from phone I get white noise attacks but not via optical or coax.

Yep UAPP for Android wired output is a must. For BT from phone I use Mark Levinson 5909 which are OK (though better wired via Mojo 2).
