Hi guys,

I'm just curious to know if those of you who have heard or built high end amps feel that the type of volume knob used will affect the sound of a potentiometer or stepped attenuator?

For instance, is there any sonic advantage to having a volume knob machined out of a tone wood rather than the usual aluminium or brass?

Cheers.

Kevin Gilmore made his own solid gold knob and put a ruby or diamond pointer in it.
I wonder if he has since cryo treated it.

Does body capacitance enter into the equation at all as far as a transient effect?

(Non-anodized metal knob (stainless, chrome or nickeled), metal pot shaft, metal nut securing pot to metal faceplate, faceplate at ground of chassis.)

The material don't matter, as long as you wrap it in ERS paper.
