I just purchased a set of Stax SR5 headphones with the SRD-7 adapter on craigslist. The seller threw in an additional headphone, which he believes to be a Denon electrostatic...there are no markings on it anyway (except for "Japan" written on it) and the energizer it came with only says  ME-20D.

Any ideas on what these are?

Towards the bottom of this page theres an image of a very similar looking vintage electrostat..

" I have been told they were produced either by Micro Seiki, or Stax, for Infinity, but I don’t know exactly who did make them - I doubt Infinity produced these themselves."

Heres another sighting of this system under the Infinity brand...

Theres a blurb on it (Infinity version) half way down this page... "Infinity ES1 with ME-10D"

Theres slightly more info on the Infinity version, couple pics

Looks like an OEM of some sort.  If it says "Japan" on it one could partially equate that to Stax... but it was a different business world back then.  More importantly how do they sound?

I saw the same thing, but it didn't lead anywhere.

Thanks! You got them.

Haven't had a chance to plug them in and try them yet...but I will today. The person I got them from said that they would distort when the volume was turned up...he felt that it was a problem with the energizer. Not sure. I'll find out today!

Cool deal... I would not hesitate to open that amp up.  OEMs almost always leave some sort of manufacturer ID inside.  Regarding the distortion, capacitor replacement would be the first thing I'd look into. Hopefully they used off the shelf components, and compatible replacements are available. Good luck!!

So I hooked it all up and turned it all on. There was basically no volume at all until I was at ~70% on my amp, and when I did hear soemthing, it sounded distorted. With the amp at 100% volume, the headphones were really quiet still and quite distorted.

So...energizer problem or headphone problem?
