There are two ebay auctions going on now for vintage Stax headphones. The first is for the Stax Gamma with the SRD-6 driver, while the second is for the Stax SR5 with the (seemingly) same SRD-6/SB driver. Does anyone know if these are any good, or do they suffer from an overbright top end? One pair looks to be from the early 1990s, while the second is from 1985 (I emailed the seller). Thanks.

I have the SR5 and find them to be wonderful.......as did many Head-fiers at the NYC meet who listened to Skippy's pair, running off a Nohr tube amp. They do not (to my ears) have excessive brightness, and the bass is decent. It's all about midrange detail with these.........and there's gobs of it!
