I recently bought the Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro 250 headphones and a Creative XFi-HD USB. I know these headphones are relatively hard to drive, but when I compare them amped and unamped, all I really hear is a slightly tamed treble in comparison. Am I missing something?

Nope, that expected. Other amps may give slightly more bass too, but not a ton.

I think I may have a severe case of the upgrade bug, or maybe just the curiosity bug. I am in the process of acquiring a digizoiud ZO2 for all my headphones and portable sources as I'm interested on the amp and bass boost.

Try the DT990s in a receiver, see if there is much of a difference.
