I would love to save as much money while having a great sound set up. No bottlenecks with the 598 and I'll be happy
I have an 2011 ASUS gaming mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131792 It has a Realtek ALC892 chip set for audio. Is the on-board sound processing for this mobo good enough? I additionally have a receiver (might be horrible, linked below) I could probably hook it up with optical cables to try to bypass my on-board if you think my on-board is inadequate.
In short, out of three options what is the best performance/dollar without serious bottlenecks:
1. Keep using mobo's on-board audio.
2. Set up your receiver with (?) cables. Is optical OK and still a standard?
3. Or, ..gulp.., buy a DAC. If a DAC is needed I would like a flat unaltered experience that doesn't bottleneck my HD 598s for as cheap as possible.
Thanks! I'm quite the newb at all this audiophile stuff, but I certainly couldn't find anything on my components in terms of quality I don't know what I'm reading or looking for with these specs.
