I just built the Jon Risch's Power Filter. I highly recommend it. Works well and fairly easy to build inside a 4-gang blue electrical box from Lowes or Home Depot, that way you get about 8 outlets of clean power for all your noise producing gear. BTW, the best place (actually the only place) to buy the proper spec'd inductors is here. If you have any questions PM me.
I took an easier route than the one described by Jon Risch. It works well and can be assembled very quickly. I actually bought a few extra filters and inserted them into metal extension plugs - you lose one socket but the rest are filtered. This allowed me to run my main rig from the more complex box with MOV's and a trip switch while I have a portable line filter which I think makes a difference to the amp next to my bed too. I did come across one discussion thread at the time which discussed the negative effect of the MOV's on the sound ?? I couldn't hear a difference and feel more comfortable with the surge protection.
