I have an ancient set of Altec Lansing speakers that have developed a background whine/hiss when nothing is plugged into them. I may do some more troubleshooting with them, but I've been considering replacing them for some time now.

It seems that most recommendations are for powered speakers, but those seem to include a bunch of features that I don't need as I already have a Schiit Magni/Modi stack. I'm thinking that I can stretch my budget further by picking up a Rekkr and a set of desktop speakers.

I'm not looking to rattle the windows but I would like something with reasonable bass. Does my plan with a Rekkr sound valid and if so what speakers would you recommend pairing with them? If not, why and what do you recommend instead?

Budget?
2.0 or 2.1 speaker setup?

Not sure on the budget, especially if I go the Rekkr route as it's $150 by itself and I don't want to cheap out on speakers to go with it but I'm definitely not looking for something diamond encrusted. :D Say $300 with some flexibility but lower is better.

Not sure how I could do a 2.1 setup with a Rekkr but either works for me as my current ones are 2.1.

What do you mean by this, what features? For that budget I'd definitely look at active desktop speakers (often sold as "powered monitors") which you can connect with RCA straight to your existing stack.

Features like a DAC, Bluetooth, etc. Amusingly enough, I just went looking for examples to show you want I meant and I stumbled across these which are basically what I want if I do powered monitors. https://edifier-online.com/us/en/speakers/studio-r1280t-2.0-powered-bookshelf-speakers

Prior to finding those Edifiers, all I was finding were either speakers like this. https://www.logitech.com/en-us/products/speakers/z333-speaker-system-subwoofer.html
Or speakers like this. https://edifier-online.com/us/en/speakers/r33bt

Right, yes if you search for "desktop speakers", "PC speakers" or similar the results tends to be those all in one speakers with dacs, bluetooth and whatnot. "Active monitors", "powered speakers/monitors", "studio monitors" etc gives you more of what you're looking for.
