mine would have the sound quality of an imod, the built in amp as good as a xin supermicro, or rsa hornet, 3 inch screen, 100+ gb hard drive, pocketable, zune GUI, 7 band customizable EQ, lots of codec support, vid and pics, and 20+ hour battery life.

What would yours be?

This is only for the DAP, not including software, and it can't be a phone or camera, or have internet

The iRiver Clix2
With Rockbox
With 100GB flash memory (with expansion slot of course)
With iMod and Amp quality audio, out of the headphone out
With 100hr Battery life
With the durability of a Monolith

Costing sub $50.

That should do it for me.

Unreasonable?

mine would have the form factor and the exact look of the nw-hd5 black but with new OLED display (not colour), with an 80gb drive, flac support, imod-sound-a-like, rockboxable, and the battery life of a mobiblu dah1900 ;-p - oh and with a completely invisible protective skin!

Not if the trickle down technology continues. I got my refurbed Iriver2 for $48, now all I need are the other features you mentioned.

I'm going to be a bit more realistic:
  1. 30gb+ flash based
  2. native FLAC support
  3. gapless playback
  4. SQ on par with my Trekstor Vibez
  5. 12+ hours playback per charge
Actually, if I could turn my Vibez into a 30gb flash based player I would be one very happy camper.

About the size of a Z5.

I would gladly pay up to 1K for this player.

v.nice too, it wouldnt be a case of gladly paying a grand, i think the flash @ 120gb if even available, would be more that alone, hehe

hmmm...i have never handled a zune, you like it?

  1. The perfect player would not require a line out because the internal amp would be one of the best sounding you have ever heard.
  2. The DAC would also be top of the line, out of this world, amazing.
  3. The headphone out would be connected directly to the DAC to avoid any interference or anything to degrade the sound.
  4. It would also be highly shielded with like laminated coper foil (or better) in the internals, to make a sort of Faraday shield.
  5. Supports every known audio file known to mankind.
  6. A battery life so great you rarely have to recharge it, and like wine, it will improve with age.
  7. A very friendly user interface and highly customizable.
  8. Also uses flash memory or something with no moving parts (HDD) and is no less than a terabyte in size but can search and find files faster than the speed of light.
  9. oh an also is about the size of a meizu m6, because any smaller and we might lose it.
  10. edit: also would be scratch resistant.
i think i covered the basics but there would be more.
