I purchased the UE-11 Pro about 3 years ago and have loved every minute of them. They are the single best head-fi purchase I have ever made. At first, I contemplated whether I should use such an expensive product in the gym, but they provide so much satisfaction that I chose to go ahead with it. Now, 3 years later, I’m paying the price. lol…I put some of the blame on UE for providing such a crappy cable for such a high end product.

The end of the cable that connects to the jack is a bit damaged. I can see a very small portion of the bare wire on each cable (it’s like a twisted cable with two or three wires). I would post a picture, but it’s so small that you can’t really see it.

My question is, where can I get this repaired other than UE, as I’ve heard their repair services aren’t cheap. Also, I know that Alex at Apuresound was at one time working on a recable for these earphones. Did that ever happen? Lastly, what is a cheap $100 or less replacement I can use. I know YUIN was big when I was last around here.

Thanks!

I don't understand.  The *cable* is messed up?  Since the cable is replaceable, why not just buy a replacement cable?  You could get a Westone ES or UE cable for like $30-40.

You are right...I am such a dumb . . .lol

I'm sorry...I just panicked because in my mind, a $1300 earphone just broke. Forgot the cable was actually replaceable. :D

But I am still interested in a better replacement cable. Are there any third party replacement cables? For now, I will just buy a UE cable.

AFAIK, most people like the Westone ES cable, and considering the UE Custom cable is basically the same, I think you aren't going to improve much in this price bracket.

There are folks like Null Audio who sell fancy cables, but at big bucks.

I’m definitely going to look into the Westone cable, as UE doesn’t even have the UE-11 replacement cable available on the website. I would prefer to get one asap. Is the build quality of the Westone cable any better?

I just purchased both the Westone ES and UE "Custom" cable in black, and they look nearly identical.  I suspect they are manufactured by the same company.

I did *not* see a different cable for the UE 18.  I think all the "custom" products use the same cable.  I did see talk about a different cable, maybe they upgraded their cable lately.

Jude mentioned it in his review of the UE18 Pro.

So it sounds like they changed their cable then.  As far as I can tell, they both use the EXACT same wire now.  I can't tell them apart by looking at them or feeling them.

I see that you've already ordered a replacement, but I had an issue recently with the UE11 cable. I gave them a call and the sent out a new replacement right away - no charge. And it's a improved cable (a little shorter, though - different braid to it now). Arrived in 3 days. Good service!

Doesn't UE sells the cable for the UE18 Pro which is a better cable than the old UE11 Pro cable?

This may be the new cable I received from them. Sales guy said it was better and had received good reviews. Low end seems better, but now I have an issue with the tweeter in the right channel so it has to go back for repairs...
