My dad is in search for some new headphones after his recent purchase of his headroom desktop amp. So he is thinking either Sennheiser HD650, Beyer DT880, or Grado RS2. Right now im thinking Beyer cause ive never heard Beyers before. And I could persuade him to get them darthed after. But really this is recomendations for any headphone for between 400-600.

That depends. What kind of music does he like?

Yeah AKG K701's are okay to. Anything 400-600. And my Dad listens to a little bit of everything.

A think HD650. It is the better all-rounder by far. DT880 and K701 are not very good for rock, RS2 is not very good for classical. And in my opinion middle age people tend to like HD650s more than other headphones

. Sennheisers usually have a great sinergy with Headroom amps too.

I have the K701s, HD650s, and DT880s and all three are just fine for rock, thanks. If he likes more bass go 650s, if he likes more treble go 880s, and if he likes to just listen to the music with a smile on his face, go 701s.

I would go for some ATH-A900's. I've tried DT880, Proline 750, A900, K81 DJ & ATH-AD2000.

DT880 = no bass at all. sharp highs.
Proline 750 = Metallic highs. Boomy bass. Bad comfort.
K81 DJ = Unbelieveable @ that price. Very fun listening to this one. Direct sound.
A900 = Perfect. Not boomy, but deep and punchy bass. Clear highs, and the comfort is über.
AD2000 = Got them yesterday. Not too good comfort. Nice sound, with lots of air, but it lack just a little bit in the low end (quantity) imo. But it's probably because I'm so used to the Proline 750's hehe :p

Hmmm... But can you still say if his music is kinda rock, classical, pop, metal or oriented or so on? Or does he really listen everything?

Correction, no boombass impact at all (in good way and bad way), just textured and detailed low reaching bass. Might be what he is looking for he wants neutrality, thought dt880 is definetly treble oriented...

For $400-$600, you can try the new Denon AH-D5000. It's a classy woody. I heard it at the last SJ HF2. Actually, I like it more than the W5000. Personally, I might pickup a set of the AH-D2000 for work and travel.
