Hey guys. I hope this is the right sub section. I've just pulled the trigger on a second 7970 graphics card which means that my Xonar STX soundcard will have to go.
Current setup:

Headphones: Xonar STX -> Little Dot MKIII Tube Amp -> Beyerdynamic DT880 600ohm headphones
Speakers: Xonar STX -> optical out to Marantz amp -> Wharfedale 5.1 speakers

So I'm thinking my best option is running my Marantz amp from my motherboard's S/PDIF and then purchase a DAC that runs to my MKIII alone. I use my headphones for a mix of music and gaming, but I'm really looking for a DAC that focuses on improving my music listening experiences.

Does anybody have any input? Price cannot exceed $250 USD.

Cheers

I have the ODAC, and I thought it to be slightly better than the STX. I haven't heard it, but given that the Schiit Modi and ODAC are often described as comparable in SQ, you could sell your STX and get the Schiit Modi and not lose any money. Might even make a couple of bucks. I sold my STX on ebay and paid for most of my ODAC that way.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've had a lot of people recommend the ODAC thus far, so it's looking like a winner!
