In the meantime inside the boxes I have also found these two, which might be interesting finds.

How did the Mainline compare to the Mogwai? I’ve heard that the Mainline is very SS sounding and was curious if the Mogwai is in a similar camp.

I got myself a pair of actual Telefunken ECC82 and compared them to the Philips I mistakenly got in the bundle, and I actually like the Philips better.Very nice! While Telefunkens are typically more valuable in the market I actually prefer the house sound of Holland made Phillips tubes over the typical Telefunken house sound. Of course there are exceptions and these things are often equipment dependant but generally speaking I prefer the Dutch Phillips house sound.
I guess this just goes to show that more expensive doesn't always equal to better and in the end it's all a matter of preference

Absolutely. It is always a matter of preference. I also like PhillipsI got myself a pair of actual Telefunken ECC82 and compared them to the Philips I mistakenly got in the bundle, and I actually like the Philips better.

It is just if more people like particular tube or if it is much talked about it is getting pricey. More expensive absolutely does not mean better.
I have been listening to those Philips ECC82 that I mentioned along with my 5998 and wow, this is the best my HD800s have ever sounded. I'm so happy with this combo that I'm thinking of stocking up on a couple more of them.
Since I'm very much new in the hobby I'm still a bit confused when it comes to rebranding. For example, how would I be able to understand whether the tube I have was made by Holland rather than someone else? Unfortunately I don't have the original package.Very nice! When you say ‘actual’ Telefunken, do you mean ‘new old stock’? There are ‘new / newer production’ Telefunkens.I got myself a pair of actual Telefunken ECC82 and compared them to the Philips I mistakenly got in the bundle, and I actually like the Philips better.

Yeah, they are NOS. Although the reason I said I got some "actual" Telefunkens is that I had already bought a bundle with some inside, except in their packages there were some Philips tubesWhen you say ‘actual’ Telefunken, do you mean ‘new old stock’? There are ‘new / newer production’ Telefunkens.

As you like the Philips, you should look into the Philips BEL series of tubes. Bharat Electronics Limited, in India, made tubes with tooling provided by Mullard & Philips - to their specifications. There was ECC82 in the lineup. Nowadays, a bargain with no dimunition in quality.Yeah, they are NOS. Oh wow, I had never seen these but they look very interesting. I will definitely check them out, thank you!As you like the Philips, you should look into the Philips BEL series of tubes. I am back with another question, this time about tube testing and measurements (please let me know if this is not the place for these kinds of questions ).
I've found these used tubes for the Crack I'm interested in and the sale description recites these measurements:
I've found these used tubes for the Crack I'm interested in and the sale description recites these measurements:
Tests A160V / G-18.0V / 100% = 100/100 mA
Results 67/69 / - 100/52 – 62/73 – 65/70 – 63/101 – 38/62 – 37/61 – 64/55 – 75/87 mA
Without knowing the exact testing equipment could you still tell whether these tubes are fine or not?Results 67/69 / - 100/52 – 62/73 – 65/70 – 63/101 – 38/62 – 37/61 – 64/55 – 75/87 mA

What is the source? If we’re talking eBay or something similar you really can’t trust the measurements anyway. Some of the tubes above seem very unbalanced, which may not have a huge sonic effect but could show one side having some issues.I am back with another question, this time about tube testing and measurements (please let me know if this is not the place for these kinds of questions ).

If you’re looking to run those in the crack amp please be careful with compatibility. The first tube looks like a 12ay7? I can’t read the label fully, but the ay7 is not compatible with the crack, only the 12au7. Ditto with the 6SA7 tube, it’s not a 6SN7.In the meantime inside the boxes I have also found these two, which might be interesting finds.
Even if they look the same, the different designations can have different pin outs, and different gain levels that can damage the amp. I’ll let someone versed on the 6SA7 chime in with better knowledge, just be careful out there!
Yeah, these are from an Ebay post. What is the source? If we’re talking eBay or something similar you really can’t trust the measurements anyway. Some of the tubes above seem very unbalanced, which may not have a huge sonic effect but could show one side having some issues.
I had guessed that a measurement of 100/52 did sound pretty weird, for example. Although I have yet to fully understand how to read these kinds of measurements (however not trustworthy they might be) in relation to the actual audible effects while using them in an amp.
I appreciate the warnings, thank you.If you’re looking to run those in the crack amp please be careful with compatibility. The first tube looks like a 12ay7? I can’t read the label fully, but the ay7 is not compatible with the crack, only the 12au7. Ditto with the 6SA7 tube, it’s not a 6SN7.

I am well aware that this miniwatt is not compatible with the Crack, so I haven't dared to touch it.
Although from what I gathered, the 6SA7GT can be driven on a Crack with speedball (if I'm not mistaken) and the proper pin adapter, so I was thinking of trying that in the future.
