"Cover Versions" is my middle name...

The more "personal" and not "copied" from the original - the better I like them... provided of course that the new interpretation has "character" and is not bad by itself...

Israel Kamakawiwo'ole

A hawaiian that looks like a sumo wrestler but has a very gentle voice. And it's actually an amalgamation of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and What a wonderful world.

Where is this available? I would love to hear this. Quote:

I like the way you group these together -- I've also heard covers of Summertime by Rick Wakeman and...dang someone else, I forget. Several othes. Janis Joplin's version is my favourite. Helps that it's a great song, though. Quote:

Meet Joe Black/Soundtrack @ IMDB

Also you forgot (or haven't heard) Eva Cassidy's version, which is knee-bucklingly good. Quote:

Tori Amos-Angie

Which reminds me of...

LB (Lassigue Bendthaus) aka Atom Heart aka Atom aka Uwe Schmidt, from the album Pop Artificielle which you, ArChaos, must get, because it's all pretty whacked out covers. Well, technically, they're not covers, because what he did was, he took the original vocals and processed them -- used them to "teach" a computer to sing them, so they still have all the intonations and stuff of the original song. So...on the one hand, they're more mechanical than the originals, on the other, they retain (in some ways) all of the emotion of the originals. Quote:

Ditto, same question -- where? I must track these down. You sound like you have a lot of the same tastes as I do.
