Closed Headphones for $300 or under

Title almost kind of says it all. I need a closed headphone for $300 dollars or under. I'm considering the Sony mdr-1r for a multitude of reasons. I have large ears so i'm pretty positive they'll be the most comfortable for me, and they're a pretty sexy headphone too(Brown and Silver.) The only Source gear I have at the moment is the FiiO E07K Dac/Amp which I use at my laptop primarily, using MP3 320kbps or FLAC Files. I'll be upgrading in the future to something along the lines of the DacMagic 100 with the O2 amp. So which cans do you guys think would be the best for genres such as Math Rock, Metal/Metalcore or whatever you wanna call it, Indie, Emo(Not that stupid death cab for cutie crap, I mean bands like CaPn' Jazz and American Football, the good 90's stuff), Hardcore, Pop-Punk, Stuff like that! Hello!

I am currently into the similar genre as you! [hehe, I changes my music taste quite a lot these days but still, midrange are my top propriety!] MDR-1R might be too "slow" for some genres of music.

A few questions:
 
1. Are you going to be using these are portables?
 
2. How much do you like bass? I mean do you like neutral bass or good thump?
 
3. Do you like smooth detailed treble or more attack and sparkle?

That music and the genres you listed aren't even close. The only one remotely accurate is the pop punk stuff you listed. Dillinger escape plan is math core. That **** is technical. Blood for blood, remembering never, the acacia strain, is hardcore. Slayer is metal. Sorry but it really annoys me when people get these genres and sub genres skewed. Like it probably annoys y'all when someone like me posts something like this. I am quite annoying.

On topic, the 1r's seem pretty awesome. I say buy.

1) Yep! Portable and at home as well.
 
2)Neutral bass is cool, I don't listen to anything like rap, electronic, dubstep, etc. And a nice thumpin' bass is cool too, as long as it doesn't completely drown out the rest of the frequencies like a lot of other cans. As long as it's audible and smooth, I don't care how dominant or recessed it is.
 
3) Smooth and detailed. Sparkle just comes off as distortion and sibilance to my ears.

Hm, Well Math-core isn't exactly what I was talking about, Math ROCK is what I was specifying dude. But Yeah, sub-genres are confusing. Music is music.

Based on your description, I'd grad the Maddogs by Mr. Speakers. $299 plus shipping.

They are the best closed hp under $800 IMO. They even compete pretty well against open hp's. They're rugged and durable. The e07k that you have now would work to use as a portable source and amp, but you'd want something more for a home desktop amp.

If you're going to use them as a portable, I think the MDR-1R is a great option. I would shy away from Beyerdynamic for portable use. I just sold my T70 because it didn't fit that need well at all.
