CDP -> DIGITAL -> MiniDisc

hey all, I recently purchased a Sony RZ-R700 MD portable player/recorder. I would like to use the digital output from my cd player (njoe tjoeb 4000) and record directly to the MD player using a digital source.

I am little confused on the cables that are required however. The MD player came with a digital optical cable and the instructions say to connect it to an optical out jack on a cd player to record a straight digital signal. My CDP does not appear to have an optical connection, though it does have a what looks like a single RCA connection on the back labled "digital out."

Is it just a matter of taking a single RCA cable from the digital out port on the CDP and plugging it into an RCA-mini convertor and then into the MD player? I would like to keep the signal digital, and avoid analog altogether if possible. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks

The digital output on your CD Player is coaxial, meaning that the bits being sent are transferred through an electrical current. You could, however, buy a coaxial -> optical digital converter, which would allow you to record digitally to your MD recorder. You can find these at such places as:
