A neat little takeoff on a headphone amp:

It solves the problem where the car stereo has a front-panel input and you want to use a low-output portable source. Say the portable has only 1/2 line voltage, so you have to fiddle with the volume knob when switching between the aux input and the other sources. This booster brings the source up to line level to avoid this.

The amp is a MINT in a Hammond 1455C801 case, the smallest they make. The amp board fits in there fine, but the extra cable length fills a lot of the empty space. The cables are all captive, since it's a fixed-use amp. It has a cigarette lighter plug for power, and that goes through a 78L09 to filter the car power a bit.

Now that is slick! I'm going to try that with my Neuros MP3 player. I think that my wife is just about sick of having the radio make her deaf after I've listened to MP3s!
