Grado GS1000, but you need to match it with a good amp.

Someone else on this forum has the GS1000 and the AD700 and finds the AD700's stage wider. I've never heard the GS1000, but the AD700 does have a great stage.

comparing the GS-1000 to the K701 (haven't heard the AD-700 in comparison), the K701 has a bigger soundstage, but the GS-1000 offers very "true" or "honest" placement in regards to other Grado's and most cheapo 'phones, if that helps any

you know another 'phone that comes to mind, is the Sony MDR F-1

Kinda like asking "which of these marbles is most like a boulder?" IMO. The K1000 has the best soundstage I've heard, but that's only in comparison to other headphones. Compared to "regular" hearing of one's environment, none of them come close, at least in my experience.

O2's are wiiiiiiiiide. RS1 not so much. UE11 not at all. (Not much love for the O2's lately, they were the bees knees a few months back?!?)

We sell Stax, Grado, Denon, AKG, and Beyer, and I would have to vote for the Stax even though I like the transparency, sonic signature and bottom octaves better on the big Denon's.

Any power amp with 8W or more will power the K-1000, exactly as recommended in the manual.

Worthy notification that amp must be able to put 8w into what load? 120ohm?

The Sony R10 and the K1000 have the widest headphone soundstage.

A few mentioned the O2. It has one of the most three dimensional soundstages but not the widest.

On the strength of this thread I just dug my old cambridge audio A1 and a pair of old cheap mission speakers. Wish I hadn't, speakers sound good!!!

I still enjoy Fitz's AKG K85's, call me crazy but they are really cool.

I don't see the AD700 having a very wide sound stage, as far as L/R is concerned. Big, but not abnormally big. What really impressed me is the front and back depth..Best I heard so far. I was playing RE5 demo, and kicked a can that went behind me, and was like no end in how far I could hear it roll... It would just vanish into the darkness, depth.
