Hello Experts,

I am a newbie looking for a headphone. My budget is < $100
I basically listen to all genres but particularly pop, hip-hop, rap and lots of melodies.

Having said that, I am looking for headphone with (prioritized in the same sequence)
- excellent SQ
- tight and punchy bass
- good sound stage
- good high, mid and lows
- above average noise isolation
- Porability

With above in mind, I have done a thorough research and came up with the below options. (not in the same sequence)
CAL
JVC HA-S500
AKG K181DJ
Shure SRH440
V-Moda Crossfade LP

So can somebody suggest me the best from the above list?

I have the JVC HA-S500's and they are a great portable, some find the pads a bit uncomfortable but I do not. You can change the pads to something different cheaply if it is an issue. They would work well for the music you listen to, and check out the S500 appreciation thread, over 6000 posts so there is something about these little gems. :D

I have not heard any of the other headphones on your list.

Welcome to Head-Fi and as we say here "Sorry about your wallet."

S500 is good, for its price, it also doesn't isolate much if at all.

Agreed. The CAL! are a slight step down from S500 in sound, and definitely worse in isolation. I haven't heard the other three on the list.

+1 on the S500's.
The Shure SRH440 aren't exactly portables, and can be uncomfortable.

I would also sugegst you to buy S500. I tried K181DJ and didnt like it a bit. I dont even know why the hell AKG calls them DJ. I am sure no DJ would like to use them. Even though I am an AKG fan I need to say that they are not doing great with their low end made in china products.

Thank you all !!
I have booked S500 as you all suggested. Bought from a Japanese vendor from ebay, would take a couple of weeks I believe.
Anxiously waiting ..

Mine took 3 weeks with standard shipping, but they are well worth the wait!
