I've been searching for the headphones shown in my avatar. Recently I saw and won these on Ebay. They were made in Japan by AMX Sound Corporation I'm guessing in the early 70s. Model is AX-5000. Today they arrived and I am thrilled! They're in great condition and sound similar to the Stanton Dynaphase Forty also recently purchased and displayed at the Newport Beach meet.

Yeah, I wish...

I just compared: They're the same depth as the Stanton, but the Dynaphase Forty is slightly larger diameter. And a nice blue

They do look great, any plans on opening them? I'd like to see how they're damped.. (if at all)

Opening them requires removing the vinyl pads which are stretched around the plastic cups. Fortunately there are two 10mm diameter air vents above the hinge attachment points. With a flashlight I could look inside and didn't see any damping. They're empty. The speaker is an old paper cone with alnico magnet. They look very similar construction to the Stantons.

I love the look of those old "ufo" phones. Are there any modern equivalents?

I've often wondered just how far a paper-based headphone driver could be taken.
