Could a brighter amp/dac be more to my likings? I am using the FIIo e10k PCM5102 and I have the MA900 EQ like this:

62.5 0
125 0
250 -1
500 -1
1000 0
2000 0
4000 1
8000 1
16000 1

And the DT 770 250 ohm:

62.5 -1
125 -1
250 0
500 -1
1000 0
2000 1
4000 2
8000 0
16000 2

I don't think they're too unreliable, I think they're very difficult to interpret.

There certainly is room for error in the measurement process however.

Measurements ARE measuring something that's objectively there, and are useful in evaluating headphones,
it's true though that the listening experience is the central point.

Well...Tyll it was a interesting thread nonetheless.
Esoteric hearing isn't BS in the end.

Headzone have you rolled pads on the DT100 ?
I am thinking of getting another DT100 for modding,this time Black-16Ω...thanks !

I had very old torn apart velour pads on them first, they didnt seal correctly. With them midrange and especially acoustic guitars were among the best I've heard. No bass at all, though.

Now I have new leather pads. Midrange sounds a bit more "muddy" and lower midrange is somewhat colored. But there is now some bass and they work better with general music and listening.

The version DT100 I have is, I think over 30 years old. So the new ones might sound improved.

If you want to try the "velour" feeling of sound, and you have leather pads try using your DT100 without pads at all! It hurts your ears and sounds crazy but you get the idea of the sound

Then play something like Rodrigo Y Gabriela. I recommend a good amp, I used a vintage amp which powered my 400ohm DT100's perfectly.

I recently bought a pair of DT100 and I have been driving them with a Sansui CA 3000 with excellent results. The right amplification does make a difference with this pair for sure. If this condition is satisfied then they are great: very controlled, detailed and still fun. I prefer them over headphones with a wider low frequency extension which most of the time alter the entire shape of the piece.
