The other option is to use a different drive to rip with. I have a DVD drive and a blu-ray drive and my blu-ray is really bad at ripping CDs. The DVD drive rips perfect.
Not as much as it used to. Many of the software options for ripping have the ability to assess and adjust drive offset, where most of the tolerance issues exist that typically cause read errors.
