Most transparent, neutral and best sounding portable slim amp for IEMS? (Westone 4)

  • Pico slim
  • TTVJ slim
  • Headstage Arrow 4G
  • Leckerton UHA-4
  • RSA Shadow
  • ALO Audio Rx Mk2
  • Just Audio uHA-120 ( Not slim )

I think I got hit by upgraditis again and need to listen to something different from XIN Supermini IV.

I only have experience with the Pico Slim, but with JH13s and Klipsch X10s it's a really good sounding amp that will fit your needs well.  There is also a lot of praise for Todd's slim.

Right now, I have the Pico Slim hooked up to a Cypherlab's Solo and with an iPod Classic (lossless) the "system" sounds amazing.

RSA shadow should be on that list also.

The uHA-120 is a long way from being a 'slim' amp - have you seen the photos ? In any case, I will be writing up a full comparison between #4 and #5 over the next few weeks. If I had a few more shekels, #2 would also have been in that comparison, but dreams are free and $350 amps arent.

Having heard/reviewed both the Pico Slim and Arrow 3G, though the 4G looks interesting with the treble boost.  If you have the money, for the size the Pico is hard to beat.

So the king of the slim amps is PICO Slim?

The 'king' is the amp that YOU personally like over the others. In an ideal world, amps would be ruler-flat neutral - at the budget end, very few are.

I added ALO Audio Rx Mk2  to the list too. Yes I am looking for a dead flat (neutral) amp with good separation and transparency. I would love it has good attack and decay too.

TTJV and Leckerton seems to be good options as well. Are they better than PICO Slim with regards to SQ?

The TTVJ is more laid back and warm sounding. It's a good match for neutral phones like the JH13 (I haven't heard the W4).

The Pico Slim is more neutral (still very slightly colored) and transparent.

Like mythless said, it really boils down to personal preferences lol

So much of it will be dictated by your musical preferences - several reviewers claim the Pico Slim is better for classical/female vocal and acoustic, but the TTVJ Slim has more warmth for other genres. The hard part is that few of us can afford to hear both. Personally, I spent more time looking at reviews of the original Pico, but it doesnt have the form factor you want.

Anyone heard Arrow 4G? Has it got better SQ than 3G?
