Gordon Lightfoot
Jim Croce
Paul Simon

Come to mind as my favorites, all could write great songs, and sing quite well to boot.

I'm pretty sure she doesn't write songs either... Isn't this about "singer/songwriters?"

I'm thinking that Martin Gore doesn't do much singing...don't they have Dave Gahan for that??

Maybe I missed him, but what about James Taylor?.......he brought the singer/songwriter to the forefront in the early 70s. And he's still goin' strong.
Tim Hardin was another great singer/songwriter........anybody remember him? Wrote "Lady Came From Baltimore."

Didn't Tim Hardin write "Reason to Believe," the song that Rod Stewart did on "Every Picture Tells a Story?" Agree that he should be included.

I second Richard Thompson and Eric Andersen. And one more--Jesse Winchester.

Edit: And one more--Ray Davies of the Kinks.
