After a full day of research on the "best" headphones under $200, I am still at a quandary.  I was originally going to get the Audio Technica ATH-M50 due to their popularity but decided not to rush into it and do some more research.  It seems the biggest complaint about the M50 is an aggressive bass which is not a big problem to me, but I do prefer to have more balance.  I then came upon the Sennheiser 558 which seems to be a great choice because they have a great soundstage which would be great for movies and games.  The biggest complaints on them though are weaker bass, overly long cable, 3.5 millimeter adapter, and sound leakage.  Of course there are many choices out there like the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro, Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro, V-Moda Crossfade Lp, V-Moda Crossfade M-80, AKG Q 701, etc.  There are many great ones out there and I understand that sound is subjective, but what is, in your opinion, the best one that you keep going back to for everyday usage under $200?  They can be closed or open.

The ATH-M50 have been replaced by the M50x which has less mid bass bloat, more sub bass extension and less peaky highs.

The V moda Crossfade M80 have been replaced by the V moda XS which is even more compact as it can fold up and it also sounds better with more extended treble

Hi!

You should read about Soundmagic HP150/200 (Closed Back/Open Back) and AudioTechnica A900x/AD900x.

Best Luck

I had sennheisers 555 and definitely prefer ATH-M50 over them. I also grado sr80 which are also better than the sennheisers . So for SQ - ath m50 > grado sr80 > sennheisers 555. Comfort wise sennheisers 555 > grado sr80 > atm m50.
