Hello

I'm new to the headphone world but am looking forward to the experience.

A couple of points. Firstly, which headphonews do you recommend in regards to movies and games. I was looking at the Sennheiser RS170, RS180 and the HD595 or do you suggest an altenative.

The headphones will be run through my receiver (Yamaha DSP-Z9, it use to be Yamaha's flagship reciever and is excellent). My second point is the manual states that the headphone jack shows 100 ohms so could this power say the Senns HD650 or would I still need to but a headphone amp.

Thanks in advance and apologies if this has been discussed before.

Hi,

I may not be the best person to help you since I am new here myself but I spent some time browsing the head-fi forum for my own headphone research and when it comes to gaming, the HD595 could be (in my humble opinion) a good choice because from what I have read (don't own it yet) it is not aggressive for the ears, which is important if you plan on gaming for long hours (living/powerful music is cool but not when it comes at the cost of headaches).

I recommand you searching the "595 appreciation thread" (you can't miss it, it's the 50+ pages, good luck reading that ^^) I found it to be a valuable information source.

I hope you will find what you are looking for ! Happy listening !

I've decided to punt for the Senn's RS170 after looking at many reviews.

I have picked them up for c.£136.00, the reviews online suggest they are ideal for films. With them being wireless, having bass boost, using the new wireless kleer sytem and my receiver (Yamaha DSP- Z9) should be able to handle them without a seperate headphone amp, the Senns seem ideal.

I will be testing them iniatlly on the following, although like other headphones I would of thought the more they are used the better they get.

Games - Call of Duty MW2 and Bioshock 2

Films - Blu- Ray - Casino Royale (good soundtrack), Avatar and LOTR. DVD- Robin Hood Prince of Thieves (the arrow seen).

If you want me to give you an update on use let me know.

As a new member I have noticed that I have had many views but just one response (I'm big enough so I can handle it). It's a shame but it would appear that a very high percntage need help like me but very few can give any advise.

I did have a couple of questions on my Senn's RS170 and from those answers I was then going to post a review. Never mind life goes on.

I was going to suggest the Audio-Technica AD900, but seems you've already made a (interesting) decision.

I applaud getting off the beaten path and not following into the usual AD700/AD900 recommendation. Please post your results!

I've gone through a few out-of-box headsets, til eventually settling on the AD700's with the Astro mixamp, and I enjoy them very much and see no need to upgrade. I've heard DT880's and AD900's are a bit better, but more expensive.

Thanks for the responses, before I post my review I seem to be getting some headaches when using the headphones. Will these subside as my body gets use to them (never had headphones before) or is it because they are closed headphones.

Thanks

Your body is not used to them, just wait for a couple of weeks and tell me the difference! If you have more time using them, maybe they are not comfy enough for you.

It was the bass boost on the RS170's that were giving me a headache (now switched off) Also the hot ears are still there other than that they are excellent. Would it make sense to switch to the RS180 as they are open rather than closed and have velour pads. Im toying with the idea or I have up to £250 to spend so I can see the headaches starting again in deciding what to buy.

May I ask why you're looking mainly at wireless headphones? Is it just the convenience?

I'm actually looking for the best for Movies and Games they dont have to be wireless. It does appear that my reciever can handle anything you throw at it. I know you have mentioned the AD900 but has technology no moved on since they were made or are they still the best in my price range.

I've purchased the Sennheiser HD650 just for this purpose (watching movies) .

I've also got the Ear Force DSS 7.1 (which takes optical input to create virtual surroound sound using the dolby pro logic II processor).

Yet to get them. Will let you know once I get to watch some movies over this combo.
