I would like to add the hfi 580 to the table. Extremely durable, for me although they aren't THAT uncomfortable they make my ears sweat alot by around 2-3 hours. I got mine for 120$, but the price went back up a few days after. If you are willing to wait for the price to go back down the SQ will blow away the xb500's, with both the treble and the bass, atleast in terms of quality.
 
The xb500 is insane when it comes to bass. The bass is definetly what you hear, as it kinda overshadows the rest of the spectrum. Un eq'ed, it will perform very well on electronic and dubstep. My only warning is that it will be VERY hard to find headphones with that wont sound weak compared to it, without going up into 300$+ headphones. 
 
+1 to getting the xb500's asap, they are being discontinued and the price is simply gonna go up.

Well, the bass is much more controlled, you get better clarity and detail, wider soundstage, a sound signature that works better for Trap and Dubstep, better build quality, and it'll work better with non bass-heavy genres than the XB 500.

So, everyone, what would be better for Dubstep and Electronic music in general? The XB500's, HFI-580, or the Crossfade LPs?
 
Or are there any other headphones anyone might want to suggest?

You really can't go wrong with any of those. One note about the HIFI-580, the treble on those is not for everyone. If you go that route, buy from a place that you can easily return to or try them first. I think you'll be satisfied with both the XB 500 and the Crossfade LP. As I said before, I think the extra investment in the Crossfade LPs is well worth it, but it's up to you in the end

I might go for the Crossfade LPs. I currently have a thread open about the three headphones, so you might wanna check it out :3

So these ^ would be open-back headphones?
 
Also is there any differences with sound between closed-back and open-back headphones?
 
And would the Crossfade LPs be the best choice for dubstep headphones under $180?

I'd say closed back Audio Technica ATH-A900X or Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro with adjustable base port.

The ATs can handle some good bass with their 53mm drivers.  The Beyerdynamic's can adjust to different base styles.  I think you may want phones that can handle a good bass punch.  Not sure about the BD's but the AT's handle them well.

Also, I've heard that the Beyerdynamic DT-770's aren't good for listening, but are really good for mixing.

Custom One Pro's Can be found on eBay for $159 They maybe in the same class as the M-50's. Bass is definitely there and punchy but can come off slow and bloated at times.
 
The DT770/80's are great and can also be had in the same range but you will need a strong amp to push them. Very power hungry... 
 
One of my favorite portables are the JVC HA-S500 They are on the smaller side but pack some serious punch. 
 
I like using this song to test my bass cans. Its got a great mix of Female vocals to go along with the dubmix.

Also on sale right now you can get the Ultrasone HIFI-780's for $149 as well and they are great all around cans for electronic music and Dub. Deep deep bass very exciting highs (can be a little to exciting at first but once you hit about 15-20 hours they calm down) and overall a very fun pair to listen to.
