This is the best headphone of the world: Monoprice Premium Hi-Fi DJ

Much better than the HD800 for under $30.00

Exactly how is it "much better" than the HD 800?

That's what I was hoping. It's funny, though, because years ago, I heard a number of more expensive headphones that sounded horrible to me, while $20 models sounded just fine.

That is normal. I went through that phase too. It is because they mask bad recordings or low bit rate sound files. At times expensive headphones can be dangerous revealing everything.

Kind of like meeting a chick in a dark bar then seeing her in daylight?

Not so much that. In this case, the more expensive headphones were still less than $100 and simply sounded horrible.

i literally made a forum about that about a week ago lol. the title was "My $20 sound better than my $200 headphones. why?"

search it if you like.

I'm assuming you meant a thread, not an entire forum.

Anyway, I think the reason the more expensive models (still under $100) sounded bad is because they were DJ-style headphones that sounded very distant. You couldn't hear any detail in the music. It was more or less an echo.

You should look for meets in your area, maybe you'll find your favorite headphone there.  I'll be going to one soon, there should be a lot of top of the line headphones there so maybe I can find the answer for myself.

This is a great answer. Going to a meet and listening to numerous systems is an irreplaceable experience. The bigger meets in most any large metropolitan city should have a pretty great sample of the headphone landscape out there.
