I would like the best headphone for the money that can fullfill some requirements:

- Closed-back
- Great for hip-hop/rap
- Low impedence so I can drive them with my iphone
- As I said before the most bang for my buck
- Velour pads or replacement velour pads available
- Good bass that doesn't make the mids, and highs sound bad
- I like my lows and mids bumped up some while having the highs closer to neutral or even laid back a tad

Thanks!

There is that $85 Sennheiser Momentum On-ear deal going on right now...

Oh sorry I forgot it has to be over ear. I was looking at headphones such as the DT770, 880, and 990 32ohm versions. Also the sennheiser momentum over ear and ath-m50s look like good choices too. Any closed headphones better than these?

I know they're discontinued, but the Sony XB500/700/1000 were fantastic hip-hop headphones. They are technically open (the vent is almost hidden), but if you can snag one you'll be happy. The current Sony headphones are a disappointment compared to the old XB series. The XB1000 has the deepest bass I've ever heard from a headphone not made by Audeze.

XB1000 isn't bang-for-buck, since they had a VERY limited release (you will NOT get one for under $500 new), but the XB500 and XB700 were top sellers a few years ago. Good luck finding the XB500/700 new though... if you're okay with used I suggest you go that route.

Looks like I can pick up a new set of xb700's for 380.00. I might even just go back to the ath-m50s.

Actually you can't go wrong with the ATH-M50x but if you can take a look at the Ultrasone HFI-580 you'd be quite happy too. I own both and I do prefer the sound of the Ultrasone but at first they are less comfortable. I changed the headband pad with one from a Sennheiser HD600 (15$) and it is way better. For the pads you could use the ones from Beyer DT250 and it fits perfectly. Hope you find what you want !

Okay thanks for all the suggestions now I just need a little vote between the ath-m50, dt770 32ohm, and dt880 32ohm. I know the 880s are semi-open but thats okay. Also I think I might get a decent portable amp with any of these if it will make the sound better, so suggestions for portable amps would be nice.

I guess I would go for the DT770 pro in your case. DT880 have great bass but not as present as DT770 and in term of quality (sound & construction) those 2 are better than the ATH-M50x.The M50 would be better for portability but it wasn't in your search criteria so I imagine it is not that important.

I will advise DT770. I used to own them and they are great for the things you mention. Also extreme comfortable. If you power with computer or similar you can also go with 80 ohm.

I am going to be powering them through my iPhone but I was going to get a portable amp for them anyway. If I went with the DT770 80ohms, what portable amp would you suggest? I was thinking about getting the Fiio E07K.
