Bass roll off is where the volume of the bass drops along with frequency. It also refers to weak bass or very little bass for low frequencies. Basically the bass doesn't sound as loud as the other frequencies (mids, trebles) at the same volume setting and that the lower the frequency of the bass, the less audible the bass. Severe cases are where there is no bass whatsoever below a certain frequency.

Relative to a "flat" frequency response (where all frequencies have the same
loudness or sound pressure level measured by some standard), a rolled off bass would have a lower loudness or lower sound pressure level. The term has been applied to electronics and speakers/headphones. An equalizer can be used to alter (make louder or softer) the loudness of selected frequencies.
