I just did an A/B against my HD595. The bass end of the AD900X has more impact and better decay. More texture. Better quality in the bass end over the HD595s. The HD595 bass is borderline anemic. It is ok but I much prefer my AD900X even in the bass area. While the AD900X is not a bass focused can I can truly say these cans have all the sounds needed for todays music including bass.. A good friend of mine order one and recently got these. He also happens to own the HE-400 and HE-500. He seems to love these cans just as much. That is saying something..

Just curious which one do you think is more comfortable, HD598 or AD900X?

Both are comfy but the AD900X has them cushion pads with soft cloth on them vs the stiffer velours of the Sennheisers. I would choose the AD900X every time for comfort.

Actually more so take a look at this pic. The material on the AD700 can get kinda scratchy. Not so with the AD900X.

These are like pillows on your head.

I'm so gonna get one of those

A month ago I purchase the AD900 and upgraded the pads to the W5000 leather pads, which I think rounded out the sound well.  Then I read about the AD900x - has anyone tried those with the W5000 pads and compared them to the AD900 with the same?

Did the pad change the sound any as in give you more bass? I did a little experiment a while back I put my A900X pleather pads on my bass anemic AD700 and it surprisingly brought out much more bass on the AD700..

As for the AD900X. It is a perfect a can as it gets for me. It has everything I want in a can and then some. I am such a huge fan of these cans I made it a part of my discovery thread. Kinda like a fan thread. These are some amazing sounding cans..

I'm interested now in putting A900X pads on my old AD700 cans to see how much it helps the weak bass. The AD900X, however, have just enough for my satisfaction. I do wonder what changes the sound would go through with different pads, though. Unfortunately, I don't have any lying around...

I joined the forum so I could thank Dsnuts and others for their review of the AD900x.  I just ordered a pair from audiocubes.com, about $250 delivered to the US.  I also ordered an SMSL SD-650 USB DAC + amp.  It should make for a nice-sounding combination.

I use my AD900X on my Fire Phoenix which uses the same CS4398 chip that is in the SMSL SD-650. Excellent synergy. The best possible sound combination for me so far. I think you made a great choice for the DAC/Amp and especially the cans. Look forward to hear how this combo turned out for you. I do recommend at least a 100 hour break in period to bring out the cans full sound. Happy listening.

I seriously hope that it will destroy my M50 =))

i'm feeling the dsnuts effect of my wallet going down the drain. i looked into the fp02 and the QC issues from november to december 2012 bother me. one person posted a week ago saying they fixed the issue, but i'm still hesistant unless more people say the same as well.

If you want to try the Fire Phoenix. All you have to do is ask the vendor to test out the unit for you to make sure there is no issues. Because they had a few returns they are being good about sending out good working units now it seems. They aren't gonna be making any money of they ship out non working units and then have you ship it back to them at your cost. Also those SMSL Dacs mentioned in the previous post seem to be a similar type unit being sold on Amazon for around $140 or so.. But you can get the E17 at this price too..

The AD900X is so efficient you won't need a big amp to drive them but I have to be honest. My fire Phoenix out fitted with a dual Lt1028 op amp sounds absolutely stunning using the AD900X.
