I took my ES10 to work today and was so happy with them! (It has been at least 4 months since the last time I gave them a listen...)

Seriously considering buying these cans along with ESW11 pads and do maybe the Bill P mod to replace my B&O H6s...
I can speak for how my Modded ES10 differs from BillPs basic mods, I know he REALLY went all in with the mods I have on mine! Revised them a few times over the years that he had them before me, but of all my portable closed back cans, my ES 10 really does sound the best! getting ready to take it to a meet, and try it out with a couple of different sources
What mods did you make on yours? How old are yours? What can would you compare your modded ES10s too?
I didn't mod mine at all, BillP modded them him self and I purchased them from him about a year ago
I'd imagine he did the mods he mentioned, but he did a lot more. You might want to ask him, overall though... it's really dark, intimate and has a LOT of detail, it has a sense of depth similar to my HE 4, but with a LOT less width... I've been playing Metallica's ...Shortest Straw for about an hour now, listening with a few different sources [my Audio GD NFB10ES2 single end out, my HM 601 Headphone out, I also did Line out of my hm601 into my PB2 and then I finally went to my HM 901 line out same amp] and out of my HM 901 [HD Filter] line out into my PB2... I find it to be really special. The long buried bass line really stands out on the ES10, almost more so than my HE 4 because it's got a very similar transient response, but it's a closed back. But it's hard to compare the two, as my HE 4 is an open back. So it really... out does the ES 10 in everything, with the exception of intimacy, but even then both headphones share a lot of simmilar qualities.

Have you heard anything in portable closed-back that you think could beat your modded ES 10? Price no object.
If I had to guess, maybe the Ultrasone Signature DJ Headphones, but those are right around a grand. An they've been out since I got started here
sadly i've not heard enough portable closed backs to have a opinion. As most of what I own is full size, my HD 25-1 ii I use at the gym mostly, though I might have to check into other closed backs. I tried to get into the oppo PM 3 loaner, but it seems Jiffy wasn't around. An the PM3 is the portable I hear the most about
still though, even if you get a stock pair, I'd imagine you'll like the bassy presentation! Plus it's a 53mm driver in a portable. Most portables including my HD 25-1 ii are 40mm, so Audio Technica has an edge there, and I'd imagine that larger driver is why Bill was able to mod these to the point where they are
Appreciate the reply and insight. I auditioned both a 5+ year old demo pair and new pair yesterday in Bangkok and... it definitely was not the sound I was looking for and they were slightly uncomfortable. I believe my H6s and old HD600s royally spoiled me in the comfort department. I listened to a pair of Ultrasone Pro 900s the bass was amazing but the high end was harsh and the sound was fatiguing for me... plus they weren't very comfortable as well.
