The sound signature of this DAC seems pretty ideal for me because I'm quite sensitive to treble. But does the smooth nature of this DAC mean that music will sound dynamically flat?
Secondly, if I did buy the NFB 17, I intend to use both unbalanced and balanced outputs at the same time. To what extent will unbalanced (RCA) sound worse compared to balanced (XLR)? Will it be a night and day difference?
Broadly speaking, how would the NFB 17.32 compare to my very bright SMSL m8 DAC?
Finally, my other choice of DAC would be the AudioLab M-DAC which uses the ESS-9018 chipset. How does the NFB 17.32 compare to that, if any of you have had the opportunity to compare the two directly?
My current DAC is the SMSL m8, which I don't really like but it'll do for now. My current amp is the NuForce ha-200. Also looking into purchasing the hifiman he-500.
