Just got my Atticus and giving them a first listen. It many ways it does sound very good. But I feel like bass is lacking. However I have thought that since I changed my XLR cables the other day. The ones going from my DAC to my amp. I had to get longer ones cause the DAC is too long to fit within my self with my headphone amp. Would a change in cables somehow change the sound signature of my setup?

Edit: I also seem to notice this sound change from the SE of my DAC into the Feliks Echo Mk2 tube amp. Even so these are the XLR cables I bought.

From interconnects, the overall tonal balance should not be greatly affected. What can change is the immediacy perceived by the listener.

Well I switched the DAC off and back on and that seemed to "fix" things a bit. Even so in comparing the Atticus to the Aeon 2 Noire the latter digs deeper and I may prefer it overall. By contrast the Atticus sounds "bright" compared to the Aeon 2 Noire. Even if the Atticus is not a bright headphone. I'll give the Atticus more time. Maybe I'll get used to it.

Atticus certainly should not sound bright.

The pads are the solid suede Ori pads. I did buy the Atticus used.

Does Camphor wood only smell woody?
I smelled several different ZMF headphones today, and only the atticus camphor model smells like wood.
It's quite fragrant.

So far for me the camphor was the only wood that had a strong smell. I've owned quite a few different woods but only the camphor really stood out. i love how the wood smells hahaha. I can't help but enjoy opening the case when grabbing my camphor Atticus and smelling that waft of camphor.

The demo set of Cherry Atrium Opens I had were crazy fragrant. I used to occasionally stick my nose in the case and take a hit or two.

After nearly 6 years of ownership, my camphor Atticus still smells like camphor. Not as strongly as it did when it was new, but you could still identify those headphones by scent alone. It's quite a lovely attribute of the Atticus IMO.

Just curious for you ZMF fans that have tried many of Zachs headphones but keep coming back and maining Atticus?

So far all of Zachs headphones I've owned/borrowed have been awesome. But how come I keep coming back to atticus and loving it so much. Something about the richness but also music sounds so vivid and engaging out of it. Its hard to describe. Its like 3d colour that is so hard to match. Obviously its not as technical as atrium, caldera etc... but the engagement factor is amazing and hard to beat.

The only thing that makes me reach for other zmfs or other headphones over atticus is treble heavy music or music that calls for more treble detail or brilliance.
